PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Work under the direct supervision of Campus Director to provide library assistance. QUALIFICATIONS:Education: 
  • 60 college earned hours from an accredited educational institution; Bachelor’s degree preferred
 Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to work within deadlines and handle frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work well with children and adults
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
  • Proficient knowledge of computers
 MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 
  1. Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including computers and audiovisual equipment. Assist students with library books and research.
  2. Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.
  3. Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teacher.
  4. Request and schedule use of materials from regional education service center or other source.
  5. Prepare bulletin boards and displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials.
  6. Work with individual students and groups of students in the library.
  7. Supervise student use of library.
  8. Conduct story time. Read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
  9. Assist with instructing students in library skills and assist students and teachers in locating library materials.
  10. Assist with research papers and resources
  11. Keep bookshelves presentable and free of inappropriate learning material
  12. Under direction of classroom teacher, provide instruction to students as required
  13. Check library materials in and out.
  14. Arrange bulletin boards and other displays.  
  15. Operate audio-visual equipment and copier.
  16. Assist in maintaining the card catalog for the library or media center.
  17. Operate the media center automated circulation system.
  18. Collect and maintain/track records of student fines, late books, and prepare parent notification as needed.
  19. Check condition of library materials and report condition to immediate supervisor.
  20. Collaborate with all teachers in the building across grade levels and subject disciplines.
  21. Provide instructional and technology resources to teachers.
  22. Check books in and out.
  23. Label and add books to Follett Destiny.
  24. Label inventory in alphabetical order.
  25. Keep bookshelves presentable.
  26. Research newer resources and books to help students further their education.
  27. Keep library updated with new inventory
  28. Keep track of fines and late books.
  29. Set up book fairs and other helpful events.
  30. Help with Accelerated Reader program.
  31. Assist in maintaining records of expenditures for library materials, supplies, and equipment.  
  32. Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
  33. Assist with the supervision of parent volunteers and student aides.
  34. May supervise students at assemblies, on field trips and in the lunch or play areas.
  35. May accompany and provide instruction to students on buses while en route to and from school and during field trips.
  36. Perform other duties as assigned.
 WORKING CONDITIONS: Equipment Used:Computer with appropriate software, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine, overhead projector, and other specialized equipment. Mental Demands:Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress.  Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
